Winter Wish List

Winter Wish List

Winter is coming [haha, yeah, I know] and I like to pretend I can go on a shopping spree at the beginning of each season.  I really think that I *need* this cloak, after all I don't have a winter coat with a hood and that JUST CANNOT BE.  I'm not sure if I love making these polyvore dealies or hate it yet.... I guess I'll decide after a few more outfits.  I was gonna total all of these items up to see what  MEASLY price my winter happiness would cost but then I thought better.

DOODLERS

I have a ridiculous amount of sketchbooks and sketchpads.  The picture above doesn't even come close to the actual amount that I own.  Every time I buy a new one I decide a new theme or style and decide that I MUST STICK TO IT.  Of course I don't, or I only get a few pages in, before I go back to some old one I've had for five years.... sigh.

And THE OTHER THING. I don't know why but its sort of the worst when someone picks up a random sketchbook and start flipping through it. What if there's a crappy picture? What if there's a crappy picture and THEY think that I think its a GOOD ONE???? [Really, who cares.... I do, apparently].  That being said, its always fun to see what people doodle or do serious sketches of or whatever.  Apparently I just like to draw/ paint lots of birds. Weird.

POTATERS GONNA POTATE

I have a serious weakness for fried potatoes.  French fries, potato chips, hash browns....  well, potatoes in general but especially the fried ones.  Its almost insanity that I don't own this crazy Japanese Microwave Potato Chip Maker! So buy me one, damnit!

FIREBIRD

A few months ago a photograph of mine was published in an online magazine called INSIGHT.  The theme of the issue was 'phoenix.'  I took an old self-portrait of myself and lit in on fire and took a picture.  Looking through the photos the other day, I realized I took so many that you can basically watch the painting burn if you flip through them fast enough.  If you wanna see the original photograph you can check it out here.

WORKSPACE

I'm always curious to see other artist's workspaces.  Are they all as messy as mine? Do they all snack while they work as well?  I think its really interesting.  Design Sponge's "What's In Your Toolbox?"  offers some glimpses of interesting spaces and sometimes painter Audrey Kawasaki's blog shows a little of where she works.

My old 'studio' back in Michigan.  Basically it was the living room floor, where I sat in the one clear spot inside a ring of art supplies, diet coke cups and sour patch kids wrappers.  Painting all night and watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  I suppose my workspace is better now, what with the desks and chairs and stuff, but I did love sitting on the floor to work.

After I moved to a loft in Bushwick, I got waaaay more space to make into a big mess.  This picture was taken when I was working on a commissioned piece, which was pretty damn big.  It took over basically the entire studio.

This is the same loft space, different arrangement.  The pic on the left is from a rainy day, the one on the right is a desk close up.  Man, I gotta find the SD card for my DSLR camera, these iphone pics just aren't cutting, huh?

What does YOUR workspace look like?

PAPER WARHOL

Image via gallerywarhol.com

I came across a super cute paper Andy Warhol doll here the other day and I just had to print it out and put one together myself.  After putting li'l Paper Andy together I've been inspired to customize the template and make my own little paper dolls!

Here's how my little paper Andy turned out, doesn't he make you wanna go out and buy some striped shirts?  Check back soon for paper toys of my own little characters.
